Questions

What is Lettrine?

Lettrine is a free document scanner and organizer for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It reads each page you scan, finds the sender, dates, amounts and reference numbers, names and files the document, and shows what’s due or about to expire on Today. Every value is traced to the spot on the page where Lettrine read it.

Is Lettrine free?

Yes, with everything included: unlimited scanning, reading and search, reminders and calendar events, totals due, and a Business space kept apart from Personal. There are no ads and no purchases.

Are my documents sent anywhere?

No. Apple Intelligence reads your documents on your device, and Lettrine has no server. Your documents are never sent to an AI company, or to us. There is no account and no tracking. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Which iPhone, iPad or Mac do I need?

Lettrine needs iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later. Reading, naming and filing need Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro or later, iPhone Duo, or an iPad with A17 Pro or M1 or later. On a Mac, Lettrine needs Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later.

Can I use Lettrine on a Mac?

Yes, on a Mac with Apple silicon: the iPad app runs there, and the Mac App Store marks it Designed for iPad. A Mac has no document camera, so Lettrine imports instead of scanning: click Import, choose File › Import Document… (⌘O), or drop a PDF or picture onto the window. Lettrine reads it and files it, as on iPhone. The same works on iPad.

Does it work without Apple Intelligence?

Partly. Without it, Lettrine still scans, saves searchable PDFs and finds every word. If Apple Intelligence is off or still downloading, Lettrine reads your pages once it’s ready.

What kinds of paper does it read?

Seventeen: invoices, receipts, bills, statements, offers, contracts, letters, forms, certificates, IDs, warranties, medical papers, tickets, manuals, books, notes and other documents. IDs, warranties, contracts and certificates show up on Today 90 days before they expire.

Which languages does it support?

English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch, in the app and in the documents it reads.

Are my documents backed up?

Your device’s backups, to iCloud or a computer, include Lettrine’s documents, as for any app. Lettrine has no account or server of its own.

How do I delete my documents?

Delete a document in the app, or delete the app, which removes everything Lettrine stored.

Can I throw away the paper original?

Lettrine is not a certified archive. Tax rules where you live may require you to keep the paper original or a certified copy.
